Finding the perfect host
I created this website to be my personal portfolio. Something that I can be proud of. With everything I have ever done on the internet, I have had a great host that is always behind me. Unfortunately, I wasn’t always able to say such a statement. Although, I can finally say that as of three years ago which I celebrated that anniversary three days ago. Reminiscing about that time, I recall many issues. At that time, I owned a site called MontageTube.com which was the up-and-coming website for video game montages. This is definitely much different than what I am doing now, but at the time, I thought it was what I wanted to do. With this, I had different requirements for my hosting than what is normally provided – FFmpeg, Mencoder, Mplayer, LAME MP3 Encoder, and other such tools. After dealing with hosts deleting my content, turning out to just own shared hosting and being a joke, not paying their own bills, insecure servers that were hacked, and a multitude of other problems, I found myself on Web Hosting Talk searching for that perfect host.
I think I found the best host – Liquid Web
Review after review had great things about each host along with the complete opposite. I must say that it was a scary experience because I had a successful forum and an up-and-coming site with a good following relying on my decisions. Finally, I received a few private messages that led me to this place called Liquid Web. Now, I didn’t know much about them besides that they provided everything I needed. What made me finally go ahead and take the risk with Liquid Web was the sheer fact that I was able to not only talk to an employee who led me through the whole process of transferring, but he also created my own plan which I have using for the past three years. It is customer service like that which made me stay. You can say, I came for the hosting and stayed for the amazing customer service.
Heroic Support is ran by heroes
Through out the last three years, many things have changed. Obviously, I am not running any montage site, nor my main perspective are forums anymore. My main goal is to now create WordPress sites, work with clients in improving their small business, and mess around with projects in which I can expand my self-taught knowledge. With my self-taught knowledge come many mistakes. At this point in time, I can not even count how many I have made nor remember all of them. Let’s just put it this way, I have found more ways to break my sites (along with a client site or two) than I should have. Normally, I would have been freaking out, but ever since I’ve had my content with Liquid Web, I am a lot more calm with each matter. Through each screw up, I have learned the true meaning of Heroic Support that they strive to promote. First off, they setup my server quickly along with transferring everything without issue. They always 24 hour support that is extremely fast no matter when you are requesting it. I can now go into story of how I’ve had random, small issues at random times when I pulled all-nighters or during holidays, or even my vacations and all of those random, small issues were fixed next to immediately, but I am not. The reason is that each and every were little things that I screwed up on and they fixed it. Not only did they fix it, but they fixed it in the nicest manner possibly. That is what I love most. The support team is not condescending and always willing to go above and beyond to make sure everything runs smoothly. I am completely enamored by it.
Aesthetically pleasing and functional
Of course, support and attitude isn’t everything. It plays a huge factor, but when it comes down to everything, I believe performance is number one. If you are reading this whether at 3am or 3pm, my server is running soundly. I have no issue. According to their website, they have outstanding state of the art data centers. While I am a few hundred miles away from them to see them myself; I can say that by how my sites and my client sites run, they work just as well as they look. While anyone who tells you that they have 100% up-time, based on monitoring services, I have damn close to it. According to a third party service monitoring my websites, I have 99.799% up-time with the average response time of 0.093 seconds. That is absolutely amazing if you ask me. If you go by Liquid Web‘s new client section which is very beautiful along with much easier functions, it states that my uptime is currently 164d 16h 03m 48s from when I am writing this blog post. I think the worst I have ever dealt with was the transfer downtime, but that was due to the DNS servers.
The best I’ve ever had
Overall, I can’t say anything bad about Liquid Web. I’ve never had a single reason to complain about my costs or even thought about changing a host. I can go on and on with their features, but to be quite honest, I don’t think I can sell their products better than them. They have smart servers, DDOS protection, and a ton of other cool features that can allow you to have the best optimized and secure site around. You can read all about Liquid Web’s great features and functions on their website and blog. I love their service so much, that I refer them to my friends, fans, followers, and clients. When I have such a great product or service going for me, I feel the need to share this with everyone. I can’t see myself with anyone and I can’t see any one else doing the same. If my web design company expands, I’ll be sure to use Liquid Web all the way.
Super fan to the heroes
As of recently, I can say that I might call myself a “super-fan.” What I do enjoy is how they interact with their customers. I feel that gives such a great feeling because it allows us to feel that they aren’t just working for us, but with us as friends. To me, that is priceless for a company to do that because many times, I hate a company due to how they treat the customers. The number one way in which these companies fix that solution is communicating their social media accounts – Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and even LinkedIn. This allows people like me to talk to the company employees and others who love their services as well as myself.
Lately, I can say that my super-fandom has taken a new toll. I’ve always had a thing for free swag. I just love it. Whether it is sweatshirts, t-shirts, or even koozies, I love free swag and will represent anything that is worthy of me wearing (and is in good quality). Liquid Web took free and awesome swag to the max. They created a free Liquid Web shop where you earn points to get their gear rather than actually purchase it. The worst part though, I found out about it quite late and missed many of the point bonuses. Sure, I won prizes, but I want every single item. I guess you can say I am OCD about that sort of things – completing whole sets and such. Liquid Web provides everything from a hockey jersey to a polo to a pub glass. To receive enough points to even come close to this, I won’t lie that I signed on daily to get the single points and constantly scour their Facebook page to win their rare point competitions (when I realized you can’t win via Twitter). Yes, this may not seem like I have a life. I just like Liquid Web that much that I would gladly represent them.
Review in a Review
I can not tell a lie. I’ve been putting off this review for quite some time. I waited for the 3 year anniversary, but because I received all the swag, I felt obligated to do the review. Although, I wrote the review right away when I opened up my box of swag and saw this card:
To receive additional Liquid Web points would be perfect to finish my collection of Liquid Web swag. Hell, if the employees are nice enough, I can get enough points so I can officially create the un-official Liquid Web drinking team, but more about that in a bit. I won’t lie about everything I’ve received. The list currently stands at:
- Hockey Jersey
- Bottle Opener
- Beach/Picnic Blanket
- Polo Shirt
- Branded Pub Glass
- Heroic Support Character
- Baseball Hats
- Pullover Hoodie
- Messenger Bag
- Ceramic Mug
- Tumbler/Travel Mug
Do I have enough? No! I want the rest and possibly a bit extra for my teammates. In the fashion of the little card, I shall provide everything it requests (including the Facebook and Twitter post which is already done). Let me talk about all the swag.
The hockey jersey was the most surprising item. I first saw this in the famous picture of the two female employees wearing them in front of the servers. I wanted this jersey prior to the whole shop came out. When I got it, I was surprised at the quality of the item. I thought that everything would be iron-on type of jersey, but the letters/numbers and logo was stitched. I will admit that I wore this the first day despite of the heat. I love it and even received a compliment. I am going to definitely wear this for my “sporting” events. I know my teammates already want one!
The koozie, like everything else, was actually high quality. I am quite the fan of drinks. I won’t deny that. I have used a number of koozies in my day and go through them like candy because I don’t quite care about them. Most are actually junk that don’t even serve their purpose of keeping my drinks cold. The material is thick and the Liquid Web on both sides won’t peel off easily. It is already my go-to koozie. This will go great when I change it up and decide to drink my beer out of a glass. The pub glass is the normal size. It can hold a whole beer. It looks cool and already functional as well.
The bottle opener is metal. That means it isn’t garbage and will make opening my Corona’s with ease. It is already on my key chain. The tumbler/travel mug was an interesting choice. While, I am not a fan of coffee, I do drink hot cocoa. I’ve always seen people using these sort of things. Opening it for the first time, I thought it was a twist off and felt like an idiot when I realized it wasn’t. The biggest benefit is the anti-slide bottom for my cup holder as that happens a lot. It works. At least, when I am not on the go, I can use my ceramic mug. From what I’m told, I have to be careful washing it, but it is bigger than I expected and am already using it.
The clothes was very exciting to me. The t-shirt was preshurnk material and not the cheap stuff that many companies get. The logo was big and bold. It definitely shows the name off and will allow me to explain to people that the cool thing on my chest is hosting my websites. Along with the t-shirt, I received both sweatshirts and the polo. The polo amazed me as it wasn’t a normal polo, but one of those light material ones that golfers wear. This will allow me to to hit a round while staying cool. Although, if I wanted to stay warm, those sweatshirts will definitely do the job. They were definitely much heavier than some of my coats.
Hats aren’t quite my thing. I am the first to admit that despite me buying snapbacks and fitted hats. With the sun shining down very hard, I felt that I needed something to protect my face from sunburn. I’ve already been burnt badly the past two years and I don’t want to have any repeats. Plus, I have the whole Liquid Web package and can pretend that I am sponsored for my drinking team. I used the same logic for the beanie, except that I have a buzzed head and in the winter, I get cold. Another beanie is great for my collection so I can always change it up.
The unexpected items were the blanket and the messenger bag. I constantly travel a lot. Ironically, I was just talking about how difficult it was to travel with my laptop. I do want an iPad, but sometimes, you need your laptop. This is an Ogio bag. They are top of the line and it was given to me by Liquid Web. That is fantastic. It can hold my 15 inch laptop with extended battery along with my power cord and other items. I am ecstatic that this is even an option. While I don’t plan on taking my bag to the beach, but the blanket will prevent me from getting 2nd degree burns on my feet again. It is soft and bigger than I thought it would be.
Overall, the items are much better than I expected. The quality is definitely shown and it exemplifies the quality that Liquid Web provides through their hosting, service, and support. In due time, I plan on gaining enough points to earn all of those products. What would be even more perfect is to get four more hockey jerseys. The only thing I can ever ask for is 4,591 points from the Liquid Web shop so I can get the matching team jersey idea to be reality. If not, I could use 1,871 points from the Liquid Web shop in order to get the rest of the shop. Whether or not I receive them from my review doesn’t matter. Free swag doesn’t sway my opinion.* Everything is still amazing and I’ll be trying to login until I get those points.
Oh, by the way. I got my third hero. The first one tragically lost his life on a roller coaster by falling to his death. He tried to get his picture taken. Unfortunately that didn’t work. The second hero was packing up all my electronics to move and lost both arms in an odd accident. This is hero number three that is assigned to look over me. Knowing the past heroes, he will live up to his expectations. It has been a great three years with my wants and needs in the internet evolving in ways I had never imagined. I can’t wait to see what the internet has in-store and to have Liquid Web behind my endeavors all the way.
*This review was not written by a hero despite how it may look in the picture.
PS. This is the gallery of all the images if you missed any and some that weren’t shown above of the products:
